Head Lice Outbreak Prevention
Head lice are spread through head-to-head contact generally during playtime of children ages 3-12. They can also be spread through sharing clothing or combs. The following tips are designed to prevent the spread of lice and to help control outbreaks if lice are discovered.
- Be an educated parent and recognize the signs of lice. Don’t be afraid to preform a in depth head check of your child if lice are suspected.
- Clean the areas where children play and anything their heads may have come in contact with. Vacuum the floor and wash their recently used cloths on high temperature.
- Teach your children to avoid head to head contact when outbreaks of lice infestations are known, as well as not sharing hats.
- Do not share combs, brushes, or towels when an infestation has been discovered. Anything that comes into contact with the hair and scalp should be dealt with carefully and sanitized. All who handle combs, brushes, or towels should do so carefully and avoid touching their own hair. Used towels should be washed with hot water and dried on the highest cycle.
